Every year, I am lucky to meet so many amazing, newly engaged couples who are just radiating with love. And often, I am asked what the best locations in Ottawa for engagement photos are. Truthfully, there are so many great locations to choose from, and often I really encourage couples to choose one that has some meaning to them. Where they met, got engaged, where they like to go together on weekends…even if that means staying in, making dinner together, sipping a glass of wine and cuddling up on the couch. This one is definitely on the bucket list, people. Lets make it happen!

But when you’re stumped and you just can’t think of a place that lights your fire, here are my recommendations for some of the best locations in Ottawa for your engagement session.

Hogs Back Falls

One of my new faves, Hogs Back Falls is the perfect blend of park and water. The park is beautiful no matter which season.

Dominion Arboretum

I photograph here probably 10 times a year and for a reason. The Dominion Arboretum is beautiful, with so many little nooks and crannies to choose from. It is, however, an extremely popular destination for photos so if you’re looking for something a little outside the box, this is definitely not for you. At any given time during the summer months, there are a gazillion photographers on site.

Ornamental Gardens

A hop, skip, and a jump from the Dominion Arboretum, the Ornamental Gardens is like something out of a movie. Perfectly manicured gardens, flowers upon flowers, and some really beautiful sunsets.

Mackenzie King Estate

Technically not in Ottawa, Mackenzie King Estate is nestled in Gatineau Hills just 25mins or so outside of Ottawa. A combination of park, buildings, and old ruins, it’s a great option for your engagement photos.

Your home or cottage

As I mentioned already, there’s nothing greater than having your engagement photos in the comfort of your own home or at your family cottage. Somewhere you like to cozy up together and somewhere you feel completely at ease. I love it when couples choose a place that has meaning to them. It makes your engagement photos so much more personal and representative of you as a couple.
