I met Natalie at the wedding show in January. I felt like we hit it off right away and I knew I wanted to photograph her wedding. After chatting about her day, she told me she was getting married on August 22nd. My heart immediately sank into my chest as I had to tell her I was booked already.

Forest wedding details

Weeks later, I got tagged on Facebook by a few yoga teacher friends who were replying to a post that Natalie had written – looking for a wedding photographer, any recommendations? When I viewed her profile picture, I instantly remembered meeting her. So the thing is…I wasn’t actually booked on her wedding date. I was already booked for the entire month of August (and then some), and had planned to have that weekend be my weekend off, for sanity’s sake. Call me selfish, but a girl’s gotta chill at the cottage with a beer on the dock from time to time…know what I’m saying?

When I discovered that Natalie was in fact herself a yoga teacher, that she used to live in Vancouver (where you can still find a piece of my heart) and that she and her hubby-to-be were just plain beautiful…you just have to suck it up and go with your gut. And mine was telling me that I had to shoot this wedding. And man…am I ever glad that I did!

Yes, you can dance. Alcohol.

With already 6 weddings under my belt in August, my husband and I hopped on a plane from Boston after shooting a wedding in Cape Cod, flew to Sudbury, rented a car and drove down to Manitoulin Island.

The detail that went into this gorgeous wedding speaks for itself. Natalie’s mom and co. spent countless hours decorating, making bouquets, etc., Natalie’s dad created an “aisle” that led into the forest across the street from their property where the bride and groom would eventually marry, and Louis’ entourage of top chefs cooked up a feast that will never be forgotten. It was perfection.
